Woodsculptorsymposium 2026
in Sonderborg (Denkmark)
The wooden sculpture resembles an abstract form of a cocoon or lobster tail. Its surface remains rough and untreated, so that the wood can be inhabited and altered by insects and other organisms over time. School classes, kindergarten groups, and casual visitors are invited to actively participate in the creation of the work. They shape fist-sized oval forms by hand, which are then stacked inside the hollow interior of the sculpture. This participatory process recalls the traditional manual production of bricks, in which local clay was collectively shaped, dried, and fired.
The process symbolizes collective labour rooted in mutual support and shared responsibility. In this sense, community becomes a key condition for meaningful interaction, enabling connection between individuals, materials, and their surroundings.

“Core” refers to the invisible core of life.
The sculpture represents the cyclical nature of life, the beauty of change, and the deep connections between different life forms. It conveys that the joy of life should not be understood as a fleeting pleasure, but as a deep understanding of life processes and nature.
As the wood decays over time, new life forms emerge within it: fungi, which create a silent yet vibrant ecosystem. As masters of interconnectedness and symbiosis, fungi connect different life forms and create a complex, invisible network in the soil. In this context becomes a result of community, interconnectedness, and the support of life in all its forms.
Joy of life is therefore not only personal happiness, but can also be found in connection with others and nature.

SHADES OF RED

Class of Albrecht Schäfer & Jeewi Lee in collaboration with Tomke Braun,
on the occasion of the German Congress for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy
Pulse. Rush. Ecstasy. Intensity. Irritation. Transformation. Photography. Eroticism. Healing. Warmth. Love. Body.
The exhibition by students of the weissensee kunsthochschule berlin is inspired by the theme of the psychosomatic congress Relationships in Crisis – New Beginnings and translates its questions into the artistic realm. How do societal upheavals affect our relationships? Where do crises leave their traces – in bodies, in images, in materials? And what new forms of togetherness emerge in times of change?
Immersed in red light, the artworks transform: contours soften, shadows deepen, colors interact with their surroundings. The light amplifies what is already present – or reveals new layers. At times, the red appears demanding, at others, embracing or unsettling.

THE UN/REQUESTED
On Repeat on view in the Notagallery
10.1. to 24.1.25
Once a vessel for stories, music, and voices of the past, the cassette tape now unravels—both entangling and shaping a form. A dog, woven from tangled tape, emerges in a delicate balance between order and chaos, freedom and confinement, memory and loss.
What are we searching for when we retrace our steps?
Repetition, often seen as inefficiency, here becomes transformation. In returning to the beginning, new pathways unfold—just as in healing, where repetition can reveal unexpected possibilities.
